With reference to our letter of the 21st November
last I have the honour to enclose a valuation of the stocks
*
held by us as security for the note issue of the Mercantile
Bank of India in Hong Kong, together with a copy of a
letter from the Bank stating the value of the notes in
circulation and the amount of coin deposited with the
Colonial Treasurer on the 30th April.
The value of the £15,000 5% War Loan which the
Mercantile Bank have deposited with the Bank of England is
£4645,8.0. in excess of the amount which is required to
extinguish the deficiency of £9529.12.0. and we are therefore,
to taking the necessary steps to release/the Kercantile Bank
of India £3700
5% War Loan as requested in their letter.
